How to Make a Bedroom Cozy

How to Make a Bedroom Cozy

If your bedroom does not make you feel all warm and cozy and want to snuggle in a cocoon, that is not a good bedroom. Since it is a room you feel most comfortable in, it must be cozy. However, one might think that it could be costly decorating your bedroom, or filling it up with warm, inviting décor and furniture. Well, armed with some cozy bedroom ideas and winter tricks for you to make your bedroom feel and look warm this winter season, we are here to tell you that making your bedroom cozy is not an expensive feat at all. Let us take a look at some cozy bedroom ideas for making your room warm this winter.

Making a bedroom cozy: the best ideas and tips

Wintertime comes along and brings with it quiet nights and an appreciation for quiet and quaint little spaces where a person feels all cozy and warm. Your bedroom should be a cocoon of laziness and coziness that instantly puts you to sleep, and if that is not the case, here are the best cozy bedroom ideas.

Start off with some dark colors

While light colors are great at projecting the beauty of a room outwards, they also give off a ‘this room is huge’ sense. On the other end of the spectrum are darker colours; shades of dark blue, brown, or cream will instantly envelop the room in their hues and will radiate a feeling of coziness and warmth, despite the bedroom’s size. These dark colors should be everywhere, from the walls to the drapes to the bedding and the rug. It might look a little too much, but trust us, the coziness level for that room would be off the charts.

Large, heavy and rich drapes are the best!

To complement the dark shades and paint and further accentuate the room’s coziness, the drapes are a good place to look next. Summertime might require you to have light curtains around the windows, but for the winters, heavy drapes are the best in not only conveying a sense of coziness for the room but also stopping the cold from dominating the room. A velvet drape might just be the best for this purpose; they are heavy, dominating, and in a dark color, and they will turn your bedroom into a warm cocoon of luxury and coziness.

Lowkey lighting will set the mood

It’s the little touches, the little details, that really make all the difference. For example, lighting plays a subtle but extremely noticeable role in making your room either cozy or feel like its too airy and cold. In the case of making the room look warm, low lighting with yellowish colors can really turn the feel of the room around. Blues and whites and extra brights will make the room feel big, airy and cold. At the same time, slight lighting with shades of yellow will really make the room feel small, tight, and cozy. This is something that might not make sense on the paper, but try it out and you will see the difference for yourself.

Plush, big rugs make room even more comfy

The goal of coziness is emanating warmth and comfort. Nearly every bedroom or room boasts a carpet or a rug nowadays, but for the winters and for that extra cozy feeling, what you should do is swap that thin rug or carpet for a big plush rug that covers the majority of the room, again, preferably in a dark color. One that will turn your frigid room into a warm cocoon, begging you to just walk over it and feel the luxuriousness. Secondly, it will also make for a great place to just lounge about and will add to the ambiance and outlook of the room as cozy, warm, and inviting.

Stock up on bedding

Comforters, duvets, extra pillows, a couple of throw pillows for good measure: these should be the first thing on your bed the moment autumn starts beckoning and you feel just the slightest hint of chill in the air. Why? Because your bed is the oasis, the center of all this coziness. It would be really weird to decorate and appoint the room in warm, inviting colours and rugs and then the bed is just threadbare. Stock up on comfy and warm things like comforters, duvets, and extra pillows to really commit to the cozy feel of sleeping in the ultimate warm bed. Mix in a couple of throw pillows for those fun times, and voila! You have yourself a cozy, comfy bed that is perfect for the winters.

Craft a small corner nook in the room

This cozy bedroom idea is for people who aren’t claustrophobic and can appreciate the coziness factor of a tight space that makes you the main character. Actually, given you give ample breathing room and space, even a claustrophobic person might be able to enjoy a small, warm and welcoming nook or corner in the bedroom for when you need to catch up on your reading before going to bed or for just checking your emails. This is a great idea; fill it up with soft items and warm a corner up; you can always get sliding doors installed for the ultimate cozy feeling. Once you have that, prepare to discover your new favorite spot in the house.

Use your fireplace

If your bedroom has a fireplace, you have struck the goldmine of coziness. All across movies and shows, you watch a person just lie in front of the fireplace and be comforted blissfully. Well, why shouldn’t your cocoon of coziness and luxuriousness have that same warm feeling? Don’t start a fire in the fireplace, instead, look towards electric heaters or other heating solutions that will make that fireplace a practical location. For added dramatic effect and that soothing effect, get a heater which plays a looped video of a fire, complete with crackling sounds. If you can do that, it would be hard to leave the room, trust us. Its just so comforting, warm, inviting and cozy that you might just want to hibernate in your bedroom.

Go for an overall snug feeling

While airiness and size are certainly appreciated, you don’t feel cozy in a big room that is sparsely decorated and appointed. Instead, you feel cozy in a place that is small, not too cramped, but is snug enough to make you want to cuddle up. This is the exact feeling that you should be looking to replicate in your bedroom: snug and coziness. So, do away with anything that might suggest airiness or light; instead, fill your room up with dark and warm stuff and include a snug spot in your bedroom to really drive home the point about coziness. And then, your bedroom will turn into a place of relaxation and nothing but a warm, inviting ambience.
